A Chairmanship Aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Builder Izu Iloba-Agafiena, has approached a High Court in Asaba, Delta State to grant an order of interlocutory injunction, to restrain the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) from screening or recognising a candidate presented by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Aniocha South.

Builder Iloba-Agafiena is further seeking the court to restrain one Felix Ilomechine, who was allegedly used as substitute for Builder Izu Iloba-Agafiena by the All Progressives Congress (APC), from parading himself as candidate of the party, pending the determination of the pre-election suit.

The leadership of the APC in Aniocha South had duly nominated its Chairmanship flag bearer in the 2017 Council Election, Builder Izu Iloba-Agafiena, who was adjudged winner of the polls but was rigged out by the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

In the 2017 Council Election, the APC Chairmanship candidate was said in the final run to had polled almost 12,000 votes, the highest number of votes recorded for any opposition candidate across the 25 local government areas of Delta State.

Miffed by the outcome of the 2017 LG polls, Builder Izu Agafiena had approached the tribunal to reclaim his mandate but again he was denied victory by the court

Little surprise, the APC in Aniocha South had unanimously endorsed and represented their darling of the grassroots as the flag bearer of the party in the March 6, 2021, Council Election.

But according to the Chairmanship candidate, when he arrived at the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC), for screening he discovered that several of his documents and credentials were missing.

“All efforts to retrieve my documents have been futile as the APC State leadership has been evasive in giving me explanations of what transpired, leading to my missing documents”, Builder Izu told Mainstreamreports.

“He continued: “When I returned to the DSIEC office later that day to make further enquiry, I was told that my name and documents have been substituted for one Felix Ilomechine.

Mainstreamreports gathered from APC sources that the said Felix Ilomechine, is a relative of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship candidate and was drafted into the race by a compromised chieftain of the APC in the LGA, in what is perceived as a preconceived plot to save the ruling PDP from embarrassing defeat like it suffered in 2017. Meanwhile, the court has adjourned hearing of the suit to January, while all parties have been duly served.
